Municipal Election Spotlight: Lana Broker
1. Camrose City Council
2. What made me run for City Council is my the love for this City. Camrose has been my home all of my adult life. My husband and I have had our business (Broker’s Marine & Sport) for 27 years. I myself have worked in 3 different departments within the City; Parks and Recreation, Camrose Police Service as a 911 Dispatcher and the Public Works Department. This place means the world to me and I wanted to do something to give back. I think bringing a different perspective gained by these jobs and my common sense would be an asset to Council.
3. My favorite library story would be when I was a kid and was chosen from my class to be able to go and help the librarian put away the books……..it gave me pride to make sure that they were put away in the proper order….the good old dewy decimal system!
4. I am currently watching the news and golf as there isn’t much time for tv right now during my campaign.
5. It brings a sense of gathering for the community. I am so impressed with all the different programs and services that the Camrose Public Library provides. The Book Bike, all the Little Libraries around Camrose for book exchanges make the literary side of the library so accessible. One area that I am very impressed with is the after-school programs (when you can offer them). What a great place for children to spend time after school. All the activities, the lunch program, and having a warm place for them to “hang out” for a while. I imagine that this gives many working parents peace of mind while they finish their day at work. The Camrose Library provides so many opportunities for everyone in the city to access information. It really is a place for anyone to feel at home.
6. My vision for Camrose is it to stay the beautiful, inviting City that it is. I want to entice young families to move here to Camrose and put down their roots, raise their families and maybe even open a business. Giving my voice to the citizens of Camrose is me giving back. I have the courage to contribute constructively as a council member and represent city residents for the greater good. My experience as a former employee of the City, as a resident, as a tax payer, as a business owner, and a long time local supporter of this City makes me uniquely suited to represent in the council chambers.
