Hellooo everyone! Welcome back to another summer at the Camrose Public Library! Here is your guide to all of the programs we will be offering this summer! To sign up for any of these programs, visit our Eventbrite!

Kids and Teens Programs:

Craft and STEAM Videos 

Available 24/7 online

Our weekly YouTube videos are back again this summer! Check out our YouTube channel for weekly videos that will explore your creative side! From invisible ink to solar oven smores, we have exciting activities for everyone!

 

3Rs – Reckless, Ridiculous Reading

Weekly online meets plus daily challenges

For a summer of reckless, ridiculous reading fun! Join Michelle at Camrose Public Library for reading challenges and fun activities in a low-anxiety environment to engage with reading in every context.


This program will be offered for two different age groups: Grades 4-6 and Grades 7-9. Registration is limited and will open on June 21. 

 

Teen D&D

Weekly every Thursday, time to be decided 

If you’re looking for an out-of-this-world adventure this summer, then this may be the perfect program for you! Join us at the library for an opportunity to explore the land, find treasure and maybe even save the world!    


This program is currently offered for ages 13-19 and space is filling up fast. Email genglot@prl.ab.ca if you’re interested or would like more information! 

 

Mystery Week

July 5th - 9th

There is no better way to kick-off the summer than with a good mystery. 

  • Join us virtually for two mystery-themed crafts and a STEAM activity on our YouTube channel that will help teach you the ways of being a true detective. 
  • If you are looking for a challenge, look no further than our Virtual Escape Rooms, one for kids and one for adults, that may stump even the best of detectives. Both escape rooms will be released on Wednesday the 7th at 3pm, and for those of you looking for a fellow detective to complete it with, join us on Thursday the 8th at 7pm through Zoom, and we can find you a partner!
  • All of this will kick off our Agatha Christie Novel Read Aloud of The Mysterious Affair at Styles, presented on our podcast.

Olympic Week

July 26th- 30th

To help celebrate the Tokyo Summer Olympics, we are devoting an entire week to Olympic-themed challenges, crafts and activities! Check out our YouTube channel on Wednesday the 28th for our Minute-to-Win-It Olympics! And if you’re a fan of trivia, or just want a lot of laughs and fun, join us virtually on Thursday the 29th at 7pm through zoom for Olympic themed trivia. 

 

 

Family Programs:

The Story Walk

The Story Walk around Mirror Lake is making its return this summer, showcasing a new story every two weeks! Our first story is Syrian-Canadian author Danny Ramadan’s heartwarming picture book, Salma the Syrian Chef


Salma the Syrian Chef Activities

Author Visit - Not only will this book make for an amazing read on your walk, but Danny Ramadan himself will be visiting us virtually for an author visit on Wednesday, July 21st at 7pm. 


Cooking Foul Shami – We will be cooking the traditional Syrian dish, Foul Shami, following the recipe highlighted at the end of the book! Not only will we be providing a video on how to make it, but we will also be offering a kit for you to take home with all the ingredients you need to follow along at home. Check out our YouTube channel on Wednesday, July 14th at 6pm for the video!

Game Nights

Thursdays at 7pm through Zoom

Are you a game lover? If so, you’re in luck as we will be hosting a virtual game night every week. Every Thursday night will have a different game, so come and join us for a lot of laughs and some friendly competition. 

  • July 8th: Escape Rooms (One for the Kids and one for the Adults, but you can complete one as a family if you wish)
  • July 15th: Kahoot Games 
  • July 22nd: Virtual Board Games

A Book and a Bounce

Tuesdays at 10am – July 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th and August 3rd, 24th

Join us for a quick, virtual version of Camrose Public Library’s Books and Bounces program for infants and caregivers. Visit our YouTube channel to read, sing and bounce with Miss Nicole. Email nicole@prl.ab.ca for the Zoom link.

 

Summer Time Story Time

Wednesdays at 11am – July 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and August 4th, 25th

Themed grab-and-go kits contain almost everything you need to join Nicole on Zoom for a weekly 45 minutes of fun! Registration is for all 6 weeks, and we will email you a Zoom link when kits are ready to pick up at the library. You can pick up all 6 kits for the 6 weeks at once, saving you multiple trips to the library. If you’d like to register, but can’t make it to the library, please email nicole@prl.ab.ca and she’ll share the weekly supplies list so you can build your own kit!

 

Sacred Arts and Crafts

Mondays at 11am – July 5th - August 16th

We will be teaming up with Sacred Arts this summer to offer amazing online yoga for parents, alongside exciting crafts, storytimes and activities for kids. Don’t have kids? Come join us for some yoga anyway! Want to skip the yoga? You can craft online with your kids too! Donate what you can for the incredible yoga classes; we cannot wait to see you there!

Book Club

The last Tuesday of every month at the library 

6:30 pm via Zoom, or in-person if able

Our monthly book club gives you the chance to meet new people, read great books and chat about them. Book copies can be picked up at the library. Email shannon@prl.ab.ca for the Zoom link. July’s book will be The Alice Network by Liv Constantine

 

Ukulele

Mondays at 1pm 

Join our weekly jam session on Zoom to play and sing along with others! All levels welcome. Bring your own Ukulele, extra music books can be picked up at the library. For the Zoom link, email shannon@prl.ab.ca or call the library (780-672-4214).

Book Tastings

Wednesdays - Every two-weeks - New episodes with all new genres released 

Similar to a menu at a restaurant, our book tastings will provide a variety of book recommendations for teens and adults within a genre to help you find your next great read!

 

Novel Read Aloud

Fridays - Every week - Two more chapters released

Our novel read aloud will feature the thrilling Agatha Christie mystery The Mysterious Affair at Styles! Tune in weekly on Friday’s for a new piece of the puzzle as we solve this mystery together. 

 

Tales and Travels

In this series, participants take an imaginary journey to another country to explore folklore, interesting facts, books and puzzles from the region. Each week, a new kit will be available with themed books and puzzles alongside an activity book to keep, and a podcast. 

 

Summer Reading Challenges:

TD Summer Reading Club

The TD Summer Reading Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their own way. Through providing several fun challenges and activities that highlight literacy, This is key to building a lifelong love of reading. You can now register your child (or children) for the TD Summer Reading Program. After you have registered, come by the library to pick up a goodie bag full of prizes and your access code to the TD challenges.

 

Beanstack

Looking for something new and fun to do over the summer? Allow us to introduce you to Beanstack! Beanstack is a website with a matching mobile app that can help get you excited about reading! Through completing reading challenges such as "Read outside" or "Read in a fort" and activity challenges such as "Visit the Book Bike", you can earn tons of exciting badges! We also offer a bunch of prizes for earning badges and completing challenges from stickers and tattoos to gift cards, free books and a tablet! Beanstack is available for all age groups!
