Opera has a history rich with art. Not only music and drama, but costumes and set designs have been influenced by architecture and painting. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a great article that touches on the history of opera and connections with all kinds of art. Link.
Hansel and Gretel is a great first opera for children. Watch the opera, read the story and pick up a shadow puppet kit from the library to act it out at home.
